EAST GREENBUSH FIRST CANDIDATES SUBMIT INDEPENDENT NOMINATING PETITION

East Greenbush, NY (August 11, 2015).  East Greenbush First candidates for Supervisor and two Town Board positions will submit petitions to the Rensselaer County Board of Elections today at 2 pm.

East Greenbush First is submitting a total of 1,596 signatures, far exceeding the 294 minimum requirement. The signatures represent residents in all 12 of the town election districts, and were obtained by 32 individual petition carriers during the time period of July 7, 2015 - August 6, 2015.

Submission of Independent Nominating Petitions allows the East Greenbush First candidates to appear on the November 3, 2015 Election Day ballot.  The number of signatures required is based on data provided by the Rensselaer County Board of Elections. The minimum number of 294 represents 5% of the East Greenbush votes cast in the 2014 election for Governor.

Jack Conway, candidate for Supervisor believes that the response to the petition reflects overwhelming support for new candidates: "When I was going door to door introducing myself, and introducing East Greenbush First as an independent party, people were enthused about change.  I didn’t meet a single person who was proud of the way their town has been governed."

Tina Tierney, candidate for Town Board, is convinced that the unprecedented number of petition signatures is an indicator that an independent campaign will succeed, “People are excited that we are running an independent campaign. I consistently heard,'This is what we need'.  Residents want candidates who are committed to working together to improve our community through transparent, honest and proactive government."

Tom Grant, candidate for Town Board is grateful for the tremendous support from residents, "We thank the many people who took the time from their busy schedules to sign and carry our petitions. Their support is greatly appreciated."

Jack Conway, Tina Tierney, and Tom Grant are running as an independent team because residents are deeply dissatisfied with both political parties and have been seeking an alternative to politics as usual.  East Greenbush First has emerged as such an alternative and has already garnered widespread support in the community,as demonstrated by the significant percentage of residents who signed the nominating petition.

The East Greenbush First candidates are available to provide more information on the petition process.
